Key stakeholders discussed water resources management in Uzbekistan at the Tashkent International Investment Forum

Dilshod Azimov, Acting Chairman of the Board of JC “Uzsuvtaminot” , shared the experience of implementing a joint pilot project with Switzerland, due to which a program was implemented that significantly improved water supply methods and environmental safety of the region. Dilshod Azimov also outlined key directions of development of “Uzbekistan-2030” strategy, which, among other things, are aimed at providing 90% of the country's population with access to clean water. Azimov emphasized that for successful implementation of these tasks it is necessary to actively cooperate with international financial institutions, such as the Asian Development Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, business and government. In turn, Abdulwahab Sharif, SWS chief business development officer, presented a large-scale project to be implemented jointly with Uzsuvtaminot. The project is expected to be the largest in Central Asia. It involves utilization of water resources from Salar and Bektemir. Abdulwahab Sharif also spoke about the experience with the water system in Abu Dhabi, which includes water collection, purification and reuse. He expressed hope for introduction of similar technologies and approaches in Uzbekistan, which will be a new step to improve water management in the country. The event emphasized the role of the government, business and society in working together to solve water problems and prepare for future challenges in this important area.
